Summer colour analysis: subgroups and colours

As we go a little bit in detail with our colour analysis journey, I’ll talk about the Summer colour season. We’ll see the characteristics of the Summer person and its subgroups in colour analysis. With the description of every subgroup, I’m also going to include the colour palettes, so you know which colours you can wear. Remember that you can steal colours off the bordering seasons, and you shouldn’t consider these colour palettes a limit.

This is the Summer colour palette.

As you can see, it has a lot of muted colours, with added white, grey or black. They also have pops of bright colours, but less than say, a Spring.

Characteristics of the Summer person

The Summer person has a relatively softer complexion, meaning that it can carry colours that would otherwise be considered dull. Note that a Summer person can’t carry black as easily as a Winter person, and can’t wear orange or brown. Summers have a cool or neutral-cool undertone. If you have fair olive skin, with relatively light eyes and hair, you may consider giving this a read. This way, you can make yourself an idea of what season you could be, since olive skin has cool (or cool-leaning) undertones. Down below, I have put the typical hair and eye colour for a Summer person, but these aren’t necessarily the only ones.

The Summer seasonal subgroups

True Summer

True Summer is also known as Pure or Absolute Summer. Their hair is ashy medium brown, and their skin is relatively light. Their eyes can be grey, blue or green. They have cool undertones. Since they have no dominant colour aspect, they can wear absolutely any Summer colour they like.

Cool summer

This subgroup also known as Dark or Deep Summer, and can be confused for a Winter, because their colours are brighter and slightly darker. They have a more contrast in their skin, with brown hair and hazel or brown eyes, and light to medium skin. The hair can be slightly reddish, especially if dyed. They have extremely cool undertones, and can borrow the lighter colours in the Cool Winter palette.

Soft Summer

They tend to look a lot like Soft Autumns, but they’re actually Summers because their colours are cool. They have grey, blue, olive, hazel or brown coloured eyes with ashy dark blonde or brown hair. Their hair can also have reddish tones. Soft Summers have a light to medium skin tone, with a cool or neutral-cool undertone.

Light Summer

They are the lightest of all Summers. Light Summers have light skin, blue or green eyes and blonde hair. The Light Summer subgroup borders into Light Spring, so they can use the Light Spring palette’s cooler-leaning colours. Note that cooler colours are achieved by adding blue to the true colour.
